Deputy Superintendent of Police, Divendra Kumar Mishra, three sub-inspectors and four constables in Dikru village, which is 150 km from state capital Lucknow were killed by Gangster Vikas Dubey and his associates. 60 criminal cases are registered against him including murder, kidnapping, extortion and rioting. With the murder of BJP leader Santosh Shukla at a police station in Kanpur in 2001, he became popular. Shukla held the position of minister of state in the UP government when he was killed.
On Thursday night, the team of three police stations had gone to arrest him. A local resident filed a case of attempt to murder against him. As stated by UP Director General of Police (DGP) HC Awasthi, it seemed they were prepared. A bulldozer blocking the road indicated an organized ambush and the policemen were fired from three sides by shooters who were at the rooftop.
Those cops who lost their life in the operation included, Circle officer, Bilhaur, Devendra Mishra, Shivrajpur Station House Officer Mahesh Chandra Yadav, Police Mandhan station incharge Anoop Kumar Singh, Sub-Inspector Nebu Lal, constables Sultan Singh, Rahul, Babloo and Jitendra.
UP CM Adityanath expressed grief and sorrow over the martyrdom of the cops and sought report of the incident. Meanwhile, the borders of the Kanpur district have been sealed and drones have been deployed to keep an eye over the movement of criminals. On the other, the Rapid Action Force has been deployed in the village.
